Highway 11 Runs Straight From Muskoka to Booth Road

  • ~130 kmfrom the Booth Road shop
  • ~1.5 hrdrive north on Highway 11
  • Travelquoted up front with your job

Travel: Depending on how far you are from North Bay, a travel charge may apply for on-site measuring or installs. If it does, it's on your quote up front, before anything is booked.

Muskoka boating is its own thing. Big lakes like Muskoka, Rosseau and Joseph throw up a real chop on a windy afternoon, a lot of boats spend the summer tucked into a boathouse or hanging on a lift, and the area is known for its mahogany launches and classic runabouts. Those boats need canvas that is cut for the exact hull, not pulled off a rack. That is the kind of work Lavigne's has done on Booth Road since 1995.

Most Muskoka customers start with a custom boat cover or a new bimini top or enclosure, then come back for seats and cushions once they see the fit. Every boat is templated with a Prodim Proliner and the pattern is cut on a CNC table, so it stays on file. When a cover wears out years from now, a replacement can be made from that pattern without measuring the boat again.

There are two ways to work with us from Muskoka. Drive the boat up Highway 11 and drop it at the shop, which is often the simplest for pontoon restorations and big upholstery jobs. Or book a site visit and we come to the dock, boathouse or marina. Travel to Muskoka is quoted separately, and it is spelled out on your quote before anything is booked, so there are no surprises.

Everything we do

Our Services for Muskoka Residents

All eight services are available to Muskoka boaters and cottage owners, either at the North Bay shop or on site with travel quoted.

Pontoon restored by Lavigne's Canvas Co. with new white and burgundy seating and woven vinyl flooring
SVC-00

Pontoon Restorations

Pontoons are the workhorse of a lot of Muskoka cottages, hauling family, groceries and guests across the bay all summer. A restoration can redo the seating, floor, top and enclosure together, so a tired older pontoon comes back looking new without the price of a new boat.

SVC-01

Custom Boat Covers

Mooring covers for boats that sit at the cottage dock, winter covers for boats stored outside, and fitted covers for classic wooden launches and runabouts. Each one is templated on your hull, so it snaps down tight and does not flap itself apart on a breezy lake.

Full pontoon enclosure in tan marine canvas with clear windows, made by Lavigne's Canvas Co.
SVC-02

Bimini Tops & Boat Enclosures

Bimini tops for sun on the open lake, camper tops for overnights, and full enclosures that keep the crew dry when the weather turns on Rosseau or Joseph. Each top is shaped to your frame so it holds tight at cruising speed and in big-lake chop.

SVC-03

Boat & Auto Upholstery

Sun, lake spray and years of wet swimsuits are hard on boat seats. We recover helm chairs, lounges, bow cushions and sun pads in marine vinyl, with new foam where the old foam is soaked. Classic boat seating and cottage car or truck seats can come in too.

SVC-04

SeaDek & Marine Flooring

SeaDek and woven vinyl replace soggy old carpet with a floor that dries fast and stays comfortable underfoot when everyone climbs aboard from the swim ladder. Swim platforms, helm pads and casting decks are templated to the boat, and a cottage name or logo can be cut right into the foam.

SVC-05

Awnings

Retractable deck awnings for cottages that face the afternoon sun, window awnings for hot rooms, and roll-down screen rooms for porches in black fly and mosquito season. Each awning is measured on site for the building and how the wind comes off the lake.

Canvas Repair

A cloudy enclosure window, a broken zipper on the camper top, or snaps pulled off the mooring cover do not mean starting over. Bring the canvas in or send photos, and we will tell you straight whether a repair makes sense or the fabric is finished.

Industrial & Custom Sewing

Cottage life brings odd sewing jobs: covers for a dock bench, a personal watercraft, a generator or the snowblower, plus cabs for side-by-sides and curtain walls for a carport or boathouse opening. If it lives outside and needs canvas, ask about it.

Around Muskoka

Muskoka Waters We Know

A few of the places Muskoka boaters pass through, and why their boats need good canvas.

  • Locks

    Port Carling Locks

Port Carling sits on the Indian River, and its locks join Lake Muskoka and Lake Rosseau. They opened in 1871 and helped earn the village its name as the Hub of the Lakes. Boats waiting their turn bump fenders and rub covers, so tight fitting canvas with solid snaps and strong corners wears much better.

  • Wharf

    Muskoka Wharf, Gravenhurst

On Muskoka Bay at the south end of Lake Muskoka, the wharf is the home port of the historic steamship RMS Segwun and the Wenonah II, with a marina and a road lined with private boathouses. Boats kept in boathouses still need mooring covers to keep out dust, birds and spiders between trips.

  • Lake

    Lake of Bays

A deep, clear lake of about 69 square kilometres with roughly 167 km of shoreline, touching Baysville, Dorset and Dwight. Long runs between bays mean hours in the sun and wind, which is where a well fitted bimini top, a full enclosure and seats in fade resistant marine vinyl earn their keep.

Muskoka questions

Muskoka FAQ

Something else? Call the shop at 705-410-6872.

Is there an extra charge for coming to Muskoka?

Yes, travel to Muskoka is quoted separately from the work itself. Because the shop is roughly 130 km away in North Bay, the trip for measuring and installing is priced on its own line, so you can see exactly what it adds. If you would rather skip it, you can trailer the boat to Booth Road instead.

Can you fit a cover to a classic wooden boat in Muskoka?

Yes. Mahogany launches, cedar strips and antique runabouts are a good fit for digital templating, because the Proliner records the real shape of the hull, deck hardware and windshield instead of guessing from a size chart. The cover is cut from that data, and the pattern stays on file for the next one.

Can you measure a boat that's kept in a boathouse or on a lift?

Usually, yes. The Proliner works in tight spaces, so a boat in a boathouse slip or sitting on a lift can often be measured right where it is. Let us know how the boat is stored when you call, and send a photo of the space if you can, so we arrive ready.

Is it cheaper to bring my boat up to North Bay than to have you come to Muskoka?

Often it is, since there is no travel to quote when the boat comes to the shop. It is about a 1.5 hour drive up Highway 11 from Huntsville. For bigger jobs like pontoon restorations and full upholstery, dropping the boat at Booth Road also lets the work happen inside the shop.

Can you look at more than one boat on the same Muskoka visit?

Ask when you call. If you have a cover and a top to measure, or a neighbour on the same lake needs work too, we can look at planning both on one trip. Each job is still quoted on its own, with the travel spelled out on your quote.
