Helm & captain's chairs
Driver and passenger seats recovered with new foam, bolsters and stitching, from plain vinyl to diamond-stitched two-tone.
Lavigne's Canvas Co. does boat and auto upholstery in its shop at 102 Booth Rd in North Bay, Ontario. On the water that means helm and captain's chairs, pontoon lounges, bow cushions, sun pads and full boat interiors in marine-grade vinyl. On land it means car and truck seats, classic car interiors, door panels, and snowmobile, ATV and motorcycle seats. Worn seats can be repaired, recovered in new vinyl over the existing foam, or rebuilt with new foam. Patterns are cut on a CNC table and sewn in the shop, so the new cover fits like the original or better.
Marine seating is the bulk of the work, but car, truck and powersports seats come through the shop every week, along with the odd one-off piece.

Driver and passenger seats recovered with new foam, bolsters and stitching, from plain vinyl to diamond-stitched two-tone.

Lounges, corner seats and benches recovered on the boat or in the shop, with the cup holders and speakers worked back in.

Full sets of bow cushions, backrests and sun pads made to your boat's shapes, in your colours.

Split seams, torn bolsters and cracked vinyl on cars and trucks, from a single seat repair to a full bench recover.

Seats, door panels and trim for hot rods, classics and restorations, built to suit the car instead of a catalogue kit.

Sled, quad, side-by-side and bike seats recovered in tough vinyl that stands up to cold, sun and fuel.
Most seats don't need replacing. What they need depends on the foam and the base underneath the vinyl.

On boats, wet foam is the usual reason a seat feels flat and smells musty. Recovering over it only hides the problem, so the shop checks the foam and the base first and tells you what it actually needs. Doing the whole boat? Seating is usually done with new marine flooring as part of a pontoon restoration, and the award-winning Midnight Special interior came out of this same shop.
Upholstery only looks right when both sides match and the seams sit where they should. That starts with the pattern.

Old covers are taken apart and copied, or the seat is measured fresh, then every panel is cut on the CNC table.

Heavy-duty walking-foot machines and bonded marine thread made for vinyl that lives outside.

Contrast piping, accent bands and colour breaks placed where you want them.

Vinyl made to resist UV, mildew and water, so seats stay soft and keep their colour.
The shop uses the same Proliner and CNC cutting table for seats as it does for boat tops and covers. Once a pattern is digitized, a matching seat or a replacement panel can be cut years later without guessing.
Five steps, all done in the North Bay shop.
Seats, cushions and loose panels can come to 102 Booth Rd on their own. Send photos first for a rough idea of cost.
Choose from marine and automotive vinyl, fabric and accent colours, plus piping, stitching or embroidery.
The old cover is copied or the seat is measured, then the panels are cut on the CNC table so both sides match.
Foam is replaced where it needs to be, the cover is sewn, and it's pulled tight and fastened on the seat.
Loose seats are ready to pick up. Pontoon and boat seating can be done as part of a larger job in the shop.

“The crew at Lavigne's came together on a small but uniquely challenging project and produced the perfect Bimini frame, top and weather panels that really put this endeavor above any of its predecessors. Their attention to detail combined with quality material transform this ordinary sandbox into a modern mini yacht. Thank you so much for squeezing this into your incredibly busy schedules and surpassing all expectations.”
“These guys are fantastic. They just finished a custom travel cover for my boat and I couldn’t be happier. I am happy with the price given it is a premium product. What I really appreciated was the service, the team from the office to the shop was fantastic to deal with, was done on time and were very accommodating to exactly what I wanted. Will be back with another project no question. Highly recommended”
“Amazing quality and amazing service! The canvas turned out better than I could’ve imagined. You can tell they put a lot of care into their work. Highly recommend Lavigne’s Canvas!”
“Great craftsmanship and excellent service. Drove from Sudbury because I knew it was going to be done right.”
“Had a complete cover replaced on my four Winns bow rider. Pat Junior and Pat Senior were amazing to deal with and absolute gentlemen. They stayed within their quote, upgraded a few items and increased the headroom with the top on the boat. When I arrived to pick up the boat the pride and quality in their workmanship is obvious. I could not be happier with the final product and would recommend this company to anyone that asks.”
“I had Lavignes canvas make me a snap on boat cover for a 16’ side console boat. Pat was very professional and happily took the time to answer my many questions, over various inquiries. I came from Sudbury after the local shop started getting annoyed after I’d asked just a few questions, and I’m happy I did. The final product is great and so was the customer service. I highly recommend them.”
“We needed a top for our pontoon boat. I called 5 shops. Lavignes was the only shop who answered the phone and easily gave me a rough estimate without seeing the boat that was bang on! They stayed on time, on budget, did a beautiful job and we’re great to work with.”
“We are thrilled with our new pontoon boat enclosure and seat covers! From beginning to end our experience was amazing! Kristy was so helpful suggesting colours, and the workmanship on the seats and enclosure is first rate—not to mention how quick they completed our project!”
“We recently chose Lavigne's Canvas to make new covers for our 2011 Larson fish & ski boat. They did an amazing job with the covers! The level of service, friendliness, and communication was unmatched from the time we scheduled our appointment to the time the work was completed.”
“My Tracker boat cover was a mess after winter snow damage, plus several wear spots and holes. The service was performed great, matching existing canvas colour. Had it fixed very fast with quality work. Saved me $800 for a new cover!”
“In 2022 I had a new boat camper top and new woven vinyl rug installed in my 2005 Doral bow rider. The quality of the workmanship is excellent and this spring the flooring and top still look new.”
Lavigne's Car Audio works out of the same building at 102 Booth Rd. If you're recovering boat seats or a vehicle interior, speakers, lighting and wiring can be planned in before the new vinyl goes on.
Recover the whole boat now and spread the cost over monthly payments.
Financing provided by Financeit and subject to credit approval (OAC). Lavigne's Canvas Co. is not the lender.
Most upholstery comes to the shop as loose seats, so distance isn't a problem. Customers bring work in from across Northern Ontario.
It depends on the number of seats, whether the foam is replaced and the vinyl you choose. A single seat repair costs far less than recovering a full boat interior. Lavigne's Canvas Co. quotes each job after seeing the seats or photos of them. Call 705-410-6872 or send photos with the quote form.
If the frame or base is solid, recovering is usually the better value. You get new vinyl, and new foam if needed, in the colours you want, for less than new seats. If a seat base is rotted, you'll be told before any work starts and it can be quoted with the job.
Yes. Car and truck seat repair is a big part of the work, from a torn driver's seat bolster to a full bench seat, door panels and classic car interiors. Lavigne's Car Audio works out of the same building if you're doing a stereo at the same time.
Yes. Remove the seat, bring it to the shop and it can be recovered in tough vinyl in stock colours or a custom design, with new foam if the old foam has broken down.
Usually very closely. Marine vinyl comes in a wide range of colours, and the shop will compare samples against your existing seats. On older boats where the original colour isn't made anymore, recovering every seat in a new scheme often looks better than matching one.
Send the basics and you'll hear back with next steps and a ballpark, usually the same business day. Photos of the seats help: email them to info@lavignescanvas.ca.
